Transforming Australia's Ground Based Air Defence Capability

The Australian Government recently announced first pass approval for Project LAND 19 Phase 7B which will deliver Army’s future Short Range Ground Based Air Defence (SRGBAD) capability. This approval provided for the release of a Single Supplier Limited Tender to Raytheon Australia as the Prime System Integrator (PSI).

Raytheon’s proposal for second pass consideration by Government is based upon the proven Raytheon/KONGSBERG National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System (NASAMS) capability that is fielded in seven nations, including the United States.

Raytheon Australia is committed to the role of local suppliers as part of a sovereign and capable Australian Defence industry. As the PSI for LAND 19 Ph 7B, Raytheon Australia’s solution has a strong focus on Australian industry participation and the creation of local employment opportunities. An Australian Industry Capability (AIC) development plan will be implemented to identify Australian suppliers who are able to support activities in areas such as component manufacture, assembly and test, systems integration and in-country sustainment, as well as establish opportunities to support future NASAMS programs across the globe.

To facilitate this process Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, has launched Raytheon Australia’s LAND 19 Ph 7B Supplier Portal . This secure online tool allows Australian industry to register its interest and provide information about their capabilities. Click here for more information.

In recognition of the vital role that Australian small to medium enterprises will play in the development and execution of this program, in partnership with Defence, Raytheon Australia will conduct a series of Australia Industry Showcases in every capital city later this year. The purpose of these events will be to engage with local small to medium enterprises and to develop the industry partnerships needed to deliver government a world leading ground based air and missile defence capability.

Part of the Land 200 suite of solutions designed to modernise the Australian Army, JP 2072 Ph1 involves the provision of the Enhanced Position Location Reporting System (EPLRS) Extended Frequency (XF) radio, and MicroLight radio. Both radios provide high-capacity, tactical battlefield data communications.

Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System — The Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) is the Fire Support Command and Control (C2) system employed by the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps units to provide automated support for planning, coordinating, controlling and executing fires and effects.

Land 200 — Land 200 provides Army with digital radios and vehicle mounted and dismounted (soldier carried) Battle Management Systems (BMS). Land 200 is a generic name for the combination of various phases of Land 75, Land 125 and JP 2072. The modernisation of the communications equipment and BMS used by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is a primary objective of the Land 200 program which is reflected in a multi phased approach. Land 75 provides EPLRS XF data radios for the vehicle mounted BMS, Land 125 equips selected commanders with MicroLight data radios for the soldier carried BMS and JP 2072 provides additional EPLRS XF data radios.

JP2008 5B1 — The award of JP 2008 Phase 5B1 sees Raytheon Australia trusted to provide in excess of 200 complex tactical transportable satellite communications systems in a number of sizes to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). We are an integral player in providing critical beyond line of sight battlespace communications by connecting deployed troops on the ground to command and control, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, geospatial and logistics information.
