Raytheon and Boys & Girls Club of America
Boys & Girls Clubs: Empowering military-connected families
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America network of 4,300 established clubs provides a strong, influential platform for serving diverse youth across America and on overseas military bases. Since 2014, its partnership with Raytheon has allowed it to engage more young people in unique, meaningful STEM learning opportunities.
PREPARING YOUTH FOR STEM CAREERS
By 2020, there will be 22 STEM Centers of Innovation, or COIs, at Boys & Girls Clubs and BGCA-affiliated youth centers on or near U.S. military installations. At the COIs, students work with dedicated staff and Raytheon mentors to develop skills and critical thinking through real-world applications of STEM topics.
INSPIRING STEM LEARNING THROUGH SPACE EXPLORATION
Nearly 50 clubs and affiliated youth centers supplemented their summer STEM programming with the JFK Space Lab Explorers Challenge for Boys & Girls Clubs, designed to connect students to the International Space Station through hands-on, space-themed experiments.
MAKING BACK TO SCHOOL A SUCCESS
To date, more than 15,000 students in military-connected communities have started the school year off right, thanks to our Fill the Pack initiative. At Fill the Pack nights across dozens of clubs and affiliated youth centers nationwide, volunteers offer hands-on STEM activities and give every participant a new backpack stuffed with school supplies.
