Sentinel R Mk 1
Sentinel R1, along with Shadow R1, is one of the UK Ministry of Defence's vital airborne surveillance assets. The Sentinel R Mk 1 is the airborne segment of the UK Airborne Stand-Off Radar (ASTOR) programme and provides long-range imagery intelligence (IMINT), including wide area surveillance of land and maritime, to UK and partner forces.
Shadow R Mk 1
The Shadow R1 tactical C-ISTAR solution provides Airborne ISR in support of UK and international operations. Raytheon continues to develop the platform with an ongoing capability enhancement programme and the provision of in-service support. The aircraft is civil-certified by the Civil Aviation Authority and then released to service by the United Kingdom Military Aviation Authority.
For Raytheon, the future of ISR airborne solutions lies in the development of multi-mission solutions for airborne platforms that are not dedicated to single sensors or single capabilities, but which can overlay intelligence from multiple sensors to give the decisionmaker a comprehensive overview of the battlespace.
The company's Airborne Solutions engineers have already used their knowledge and expertise in this area to develop a maritime mode solution for the Sentinel R1 that gives the aircraft significant maritime surveillance, detection and tracking capability.
Airborne Mission Management Systems — Overseer
Raytheon UK's Airborne Solutions team is the design authority for Overseer, a next-generation airborne mission management architecture that builds on the success of the ASTOR system and the Shadow R1 programme. Overseer combines intuitive user interfaces with a modular and flexible design to deliver a mission management system at the cutting edge, not only in terms of its software, architecture and open standards implementation, but also in its usability, trainability and maintainability — all critical elements to Raytheon customers around the world. Overseer's off-boarding capability allows it integrate with other ISR systems, and to be interoperable with a range of information exploitation systems.
Commercial Aviation Power & More Electric Aircraft
Raytheon's aerospace power solutions not only rise to the challenges of the More Electric Aircraft (MEA)concept — by reducing size and weight, and increasing power density — but they also deliver value for money to the customer; benefits that constitute our SWaP-V proposition.
The aerospace industry's drive to improve fuel consumption through airframe weight reductions is the catalyst for the rising demand for electrical power solutions being favoured over hydraulic and pneumatic mechanical systems and sub-systems for actuation on the MEA concept. Our high temperature silicon carbide technology is a game changer in the aviation power market, enabling smaller, lighter, more power-dense systems.
