Meltdown and Spectre Update
What is it?
Meltdown and Spectre are both attack methods that exploit vulnerabilities in computer processor architecture to leak sensitive data. Between these two attacks, nearly every processor in use today within desktops, laptops, systems in the cloud, and mobile devices is affected.
Raytheon recommends contacting system and device manufacturers to obtain patches and updates to mitigate these vulnerabilities. As with most maintenance, patches should be tested on a non-production system to determine impact to existing software and user scenarios. Diminished system performance has been observed in certain cases and could be unavoidable. In addition, patches may be required for multiple system components, such as the operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, etc.), software, hardware, etc. Please be aware that multiple system updates may be required for complete mitigation, as details on the full impact of the vulnerabilities continue to emerge.
