Identification Friend or Foe
IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) is an identification system designed for command and control. It enables military and civilian air traffic control interrogation systems to identify aircraft, vehicles or forces as friendly and to determine their bearing and range from the interrogator.

IFF 4810 Transponder
Raytheon’s Successor Identification Friend or Foe (SIFF) equipment is currently in use by the UK armed forces on a variety of platforms. The IFF 4810 Transponder has been designed to meet all the requirements of UK airborne and naval applications. Raytheon is the prime contractor to the UK Ministry of Defence for SIFF equipment.
The IFF 4810 provides complete dual antenna diversity identification friend or foe (IFF) facility. It can be interrogated by MKXII IFF interrogators conforming to STANAG 4193, plus civil SSR (Secondary Surveillance Radar) Interrogator conforming to ICAO Annex 10, including Mode S.
The IFF 4810 is fitted with an Appliqué Mode 4 Cryptographic unit which can be removed in applications where mode 4 responses are not required. Interfaces are provided for the Mode S Air Data Link Processor (ADLP), Airborne Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and GPS Position Reporting.
This combined MKXII and Mode S transponder enables military aircraft to operate seamlessly throughout international civil and military airspace, meeting all critical IFF and ATC requirements.
AN/APX-100 (V) IFF Mark XII Transponder Set
The AN/APX-100 (V) is the world's most compact Identification Friend or Foe transponder for air and surface superiority.
Acting as the answer system, Raytheon's AN/APX-100(V) is the smallest, lightest, Mark XII Diversity Transponder in the world. Produced since 1978 and upgraded through continuous improvements, the APX-100 has been certified and meets the requirements of the U.S. Military Tri-Service Standard. More than 15,000 sets have been fielded on more than 50 different military platforms. The APX-100 is available in various configurations, including panel mount for cockpit installations, MIL-STD-1553 for data bus aircraft, and remote units with a separate control panel. An option for an embedded secured cryptographic module also is available on the MIL-STD-1553 configuration.
Operating on airborne and surface platforms as the U.S. Tri-Service Standard, Raytheon's APX-100 IFF Transponder has the largest installed base. Platforms include: F-18, P-3, E-2C, F-14, UH-60, L-159, LCAC, OH-58, AH-1, MH-53, CH-47, C-130, C-5, C-17, C-141, C-21, MiG fighters, AH-64 and Mi helicopters, as well as several Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), such as Hunter, Darkstar, Predator, and Global Hawk. The advanced APX-100 transponder was designed to replace older multi-box technology, such as APX-72, APX-64, KY-532, and APX-101 systems, with a state-of-the-art, higher performing, lighter weight and more compact unit. This saves critical space and significantly reduces weight onboard platforms. Offered in a bay mount, panel mount, or data bus configuration, Raytheon's transponder family has the most advanced MK XII technology compatible with embedded cryptographic modules, standalone KI-1C or National Secure Mode cryptographic computers.
AN/APX-100 Mark XII/Mode S IFF Transponder
The Raytheon AN/APX-100 Mark XII/Mode S IFF Transponder was designed to meet the military Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) need for a fully integrated solution.
The Raytheon APX-100 Mark XII/Mode S transponder is based on the U.S. Military standard APX-100 (V), of which more than 15,000 have been fielded on more than 50 different military platforms. This unit integrates the proven Mark XII military design with Mode S Level 3 capability to provide the smallest, integrated military/civil transponder in the world. In addition, this system has been qualified and demonstrated as the data link for Traffic Collision and Avoidance Systems (TCAS), and Enhanced TCAS (ETCAS) to meet flight safety mandates without compromising mission critical identification. The system has been designed with growth potential for future requirements such as Change 7 and Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B), Airborne Data Link Processor (ADLP).
AN/APX-114 Long Range Airborne IFF Interrogator System
Raytheon's AN/APX-114 IFF interrogator is the world's most advanced solution for airborne applications.
Raytheon's AN/APX-114 interrogator represents the most technically advanced, compact and lightweight interrogator available for airborne, long-range and shipboard IFF. Designed as a replacement for the existing APX-76 airborne interrogator, the APX-114 has been selected by the U.S. Air Force as part of their F-15 aircraft modernization plan and for the U.K. Royal Air Force's F-3 Tornado aircraft fleet.
It provides advanced processing capability to rapidly identify friendly targets. The system is designed with a Versa Module Eurocard (VME) open architecture that enables maximum system flexibility and supports practical upgrades.
The APX-114 is a plug-and-play solution for today's F-15 and has the required capability for the APG-63 family of AESA radars. It is being upgraded to Mode 5 capability that will include the new KIV-77 Mode 4/5 crypto appliqué.
KIV-77 Common IFF Appliqué Crypto Computer
The KIV-77 provides information assurance for MK XIIA IFF interrogators and transponders using Mode 4 and Mode 5.
Raytheon has a long heritage as the original developer and manufacturer of the KI-1C crypto computer family used worldwide for MK XII Identification, Friend or Foe (IFF). Raytheon is a leader in IFF crypto by introducing new technologies that have significantly reduced size, weight and power dissipation while improving reliability. Our appliqué solutions offer all of these benefits while maintaining the crypto in a separate 3.5 in. x 4.25 in. x 1 in., 16-oz LRU allowing it to be removed and stored as security procedures dictate without disturbing the integrity of the host interrogator or transponder.
APX-119 Civil ATC and IFF Digital Transponder
Raytheon has leveraged over 40 years of experience in Identification Friend or Foe (IFF), Mode S, TCAS, FAA / Eurocontrol ATC solutions and IFF / ATC interoperability issues with our expertise in Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) architecture to develop the AN/APX-119 IFF Digital Transponder.
This combined Mk XII / Mode S / Mode 5 capability transponder enables aircraft to operate seamlessly throughout international, civil, and military airspace, meeting all IFF and ATC requirements. The APX-119 combines the latest digital processing technologies with our demonstrated IFF experience, Mode S, TCAS, ADS-B and Mode 5 processing software in a truly open system architecture transponder which has been sold to numerous commercial and military customers worldwide.
