The Raytheon Non-Lethal Effects
Crowd Behavior Modeling &
Simulation (M&S) Test Bed Team
received the 2009 National Training and
Simulation Association (NTSA) award in
the analysis category for its lead systems
integration work on urban operations simulation
in support of the Joint Forces
Command's Irregular Warfare Center.
The 2009 NTSA awards were presented at
the M&S Congressional Leadership
Summit on Feb. 2 in Norfolk, Va., by Reps.
Randy Forbes and Robert Wittman of
Virginia, and retired Rear Adm. Fred Lewis,
president of the NTSA.
This ground-breaking test bed provides
an opportunity to assess crowd reactions
to non-lethal effects in different scenarios
with a focus on development of realistic
directed energy models, improved
crowd behavior models and effective
analysis tools.
The team members who executed the
program represented all six Raytheon businesses:
Stanley Allen, Dave Derrick, Hank
Embleton, Bobby Francis, Steve Hansen,
Dave King, Tina Gaumond, Sarah Law,
John Price, Sean Ross, Steven Sheasby
and Tom Shields.
Each year, NTSA awards are presented to
individuals or teams from outside the U.S.
Dept. of Defense for outstanding achievements
in the development or application
of models and simulations. Awards may be
given for outstanding achievement in the
specific M&S functional areas of training,
analysis and acquisition, and for outstanding
achievement in support of the overall
M&S effort (cross-function). Individual
awards may also be presented.
Founded in 1988 as a nonprofit organization,
NTSA fosters communication regarding
training, simulation, related support
systems, procurement issues and policies.
NTSA is an affiliate of the National
Defense Industrial Association.
