MathMovesU Newsroom
Raytheon's MathMovesU program is an innovative initiative designed to engage middle school students in math by illustrating the connection between math, their passions and interests and "cool" careers. Raytheon believes that tomorrow's engineers and technologists need to be excited by and interested in math today.
The focal point of the program is the MathMovesU.com website, targeted at middle school students. The goal of the website is to stimulate interest in everyday math through compelling and relevant content as well as prize winning contests and events.
Raytheon created MathMovesU to help address the math education crisis in this country by engaging 11- to 13-year-old kids in math as well as by connecting math to cool careers and the subjects of interest to that age group.
Rewarding Math: Grants and Scholarships
The MathMovesU program grants $1 million annually to students, teachers and schools. Math teachers and volunteers who work with students are eligible to receive a $2,500 Math Hero award for their part in improving math education. A matching grant of $2,500 is also awarded to their local school or an approved math-related nonprofit organization of their choice.

MathMovesU is announcing its revised Middle School Grant and Scholarship Program. MathMovesU has redirected the $1,000 awards available to 150 middle school students. Students now have the option to attend math and science summer camps and programs across the country, or save the money for college. Raytheon will also continue to donate a $1,000 matching grant to each winning student’s middle school.
