Houston Space Center

MathAlive!, the hands-on exhibit exploring the math behind sports, video games and other everyday activities, is now open at Space Center Houston.

Houston follows the exhibit’s successful run at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., where more than 25,000 school students from seven different states experienced MathAlive! through daylong and overnight trips.

“Thanks to Math Alive!, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center enjoyed one of our busiest fall and spring sessions ever,” Tim Hall, the center’s director of public relations, said.

MathAlive! premiered at the Smithsonian in Washington last year. Nearly half a million people have experienced the exhibit there and at subsequent stop at the Arizona Science Center and the Rocket Center.

After the Houston run closes on
May 5, the exhibit will continue on to the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, Conn.

“With each new location it becomes more clear that students can be inspired to become excited about math when they can use it to engage in fun and interactive applications,” said Pamela Erickson, Raytheon vice president of Community Relations. “We look forward to another great turnout in Houston.”

MathAlive! is part of Raytheon’s MathMovesU initiative, which aims to inspire students to pursue math- and science-related careers and ensure the continued strength of the American workforce.
