C4ISR Journal has named Raytheon’s Appsmart marketplace to its Big 25 list of innovations for bringing mission data to users through mobile technology.

Every year, C4ISR Journal looks for new technologies and innovations that are changing the way military and intelligence communities perform daily tasks. Winners are divided into five categories: sensors, innovations, network systems, organizations and platforms.

The Appsmart marketplace changes the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance game by providing the intelligence community and Defense Department access to a secure store of apps, or applications. Users can easily access apps and work with application developers to identify new apps they would like.

C4ISR Journal placed the Appsmart marketplace in the top five innovations for network systems. The publication covers command, control, communications and computer systems used by the ISR community.

With more than 29 billion apps downloaded in 2011 and the number expected to reach approximately 77 billion by 2014, apps are the way of the future. Information has moved from the desktop to the mobile environment overnight.

“Through the Appsmart market, Raytheon is enabling customers to leverage mobile app technology in a secure environment while efficiently managing app usage and dissemination to users,” said Janne Ackerman, Appsmart program director.
