Dual BandInside the Story

Charlie Keegan, director of Civil Aviation Solutions, discusses ATCOTS

Raytheon recently developed a customized Apple ® iPhone/iPod application that it plans to use to train Air Traffic Controllers (ATC). While this doesn’t replace in-person training for educating employees, the company is turning to this application to enhance information retention, drive cost efficiencies and add a novel supplement to classroom training.

The application runs ATC training modules that allow controllers to practice aircraft vectoring and separation exercises on the small screen and at their convenience outside of traditional classroom training environments.

With the iPhone application, our aim is to reach students of all ages in an interactive way and reinforce what they are learning in the classroom. Digital delivery is on the rise which means that, for training to achieve its objectives, information must be packaged in a user friendly, customized way.
