Raytheon, the 11-year Global Broadcast Service (GBS) solution provider, submitted its final proposal for the U.S. Air Force GBS Satellite Broadcast Manager Defense Enterprise Computing Center (DECC) Transition contract.
GBS is a worldwide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support system providing military forces with high-speed, high-volume multimedia broadcasts of intelligence and situational awareness data. The Air Force Electronic Systems Center in Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., will transition GBS broadcast functionality to centralized Defense Information System Agency computing centers and position the system to meet and support the evolving needs of the warfighter.
According to Lynn Dugle, president of Raytheon’s Intelligence and Information Systems business, the Raytheon-led team has provided a low-risk solution to transition this essential capability to the new computing centers by investing in a mission-capable prototype of our GBS DECC solution. “We have demonstrated the end-to-end GBS DECC capability in our system integration laboratory, which offers the Air Force the best solution to take GBS to the next level as the government continues support to Iraq and efforts in Afghanistan.”
Earlier this year, Raytheon partnered with the U.S. Air Force to enable warfighters to watch the Feb. 1 Super Bowl broadcast from Tampa, Fla.
To the more than 350,000 troops deployed worldwide, watching the game is a huge morale boost. For those few hours on Super Bowl Sunday, U.S. troops stationed in the world's most remote locations were able to feel a little closer to home thanks to GBS.
The Raytheon-led team includes Harris Corporation as the video dissemination and broadcast leader, HP as the DECC capacity service provider and integrator, and ViaSat, the joint Internet Protocol modem developer.
