Raytheon is inviting 6th, 7th and 8th grade students nationwide to answer the question, “How does math put the action in your passion?” As part of its MathMovesU scholarship and grants program, middle school students are asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm for math and the ability to illustrate the importance of math in the hobby, sports, subject or activity the student cares about the most.
The objective is to nurture and encourage the next generation of U.S. innovators by harnessing the power of technology and showing them that math and science are at the very core of invention.
Raytheon is directly investing in students committed to studying science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). As part of its annual MathMovesU scholarship and grants program, Raytheon distributes $150,000 to provide 150 middle school students with $1,000 grants. Recipients will have the option of attending math and science summer camps or programs across the country, or they can opt to save the money for college. Raytheon will also continue to donate a $1,000 matching grant to each winning student’s middle school. To apply for the scholarship, current middle school students need to create a multimedia submission illustrating how math factors into their favorite pastimes. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010.
