Raytheon is featuring its combat systems at IDEX 2009, a conference focused on driving future military technology and modernization. The company is promoting some of its electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) systems in the Middle East to equip and modernize forces with proven reconnaissance, surveillance and targeting solutions.

Under recent foreign military sales, Raytheon already provides Thermal Receiver Units for M-1 Abrams tanks to Iraqi and Egyptian forces, and the company sees other opportunities for their EO/IR technology applications.

“From combat vehicles to the dismounted soldier, our EO/IR solutions provide leading technology and performance for our allied Middle East customers,” said Dr. Adnane Boumediene, international business development manager, Raytheon Combat Systems. “All forces want to equip their soldiers with the best as they modernize their capabilities and infrastructures. Raytheon combat systems deliver best technology performance and reliability.”

Raytheon has a variety of Thermal Weapons Sights (TWS), leveraging advanced, uncooled IR technology. “Our TWS solutions are the pinnacle standard, providing the soldier with accurate targeting capabilities,” said Dr. Boumediene. “And we can integrate TWS on a variety of small caliber weapons such as M-16, M-4, AK series, RPG and others, providing flexibility and force commonality.” With production of its newest TWS-IIB line in progress, the company claims capacity to fill international orders, having produced more than 30,000 TWS units to date.

Raytheon also has IR-based driver enhancement solutions used on the M-1 tank that can outfit other vehicles. “As with our thermal weapon sights, our DVE solutions are all about giving the warfighter an unmatched advantage of clear vision, in the darkest of nights where other systems fail,” noted Dr. Boumediene.

"We are very much aware of the harsh mission conditions that Middle East soldiers must operate in … day or night, in all kinds of weather, where vision enhancement, surveillance and targeting systems must provide the best performance. It’s a ground challenge that Raytheon’s EO/IR technologies more than conquer, delivering advanced solutions to maintain combat superiority.”
