Raytheon has a major presence at the 2009 edition of the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. IDEX is one of the world’s largest exhibitions showcasing systems, equipment and services for all three defense environments, land, sea and air.
Raytheon’s story in the UAE is characterized by presence, partnership and a plan for the future. We are proud of our long and deep relationship in the region and are working to take that relationship to the next level in years to come. As a company, we are increasingly looking for ways to build on what we have, embrace partners and meet the needs of our most important customers.
We have been in UAE for decades as a strong partner on the HAWK program, a provider of the world’s best missile systems to the Armed Forces here. This long term presence has enabled our people to come to know our customers professionally and personally and truly contribute to our ability to provide the best solutions for their needs.
This presence has set the foundation for some very important partnerships that are emerging with great promise. Last year, we embarked on a significant effort with Emirates Advanced Investments in Abu Dhabi with the goal of co-developing and co-producing a laser guided rocket. We see this as just the beginning of a new way of doing business in the UAE.
Similarly, we have had a very productive relationship with Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding Company that has broken new ground in providing the best naval technology to the UAE Naval Forces. This relationship likewise has enormous potential for future opportunities. Raytheon is used to working globally, doing business in some 80 countries around the world via numerous partnerships. Each of these markets is just different enough to require a nimble yet strategic approach that can include co-production opportunities.
Our priorities for the future are based on building on our presence in the region, increasing partnership opportunities and providing for the priorities of the UAE Armed Forces. In addition to providing the world’s best air and missile defense system based on the Patriot, providing top-line missile systems to the Air Force and land forces, we intend on expanding beyond traditional aerospace and defense systems.
These include non-lethal technology using directed energy, information security, homeland security, visitor management and training. With a background that includes both commercial and military training, Raytheon is quickly becoming one of the largest custom-training providers around the globe. In this business area, we see a lot of potential for such work in Middle East, including the UAE, a place with a demonstrated commitment to training and education opportunities.
As the UAE seeks to modernize its defense and security capabilities, Raytheon’s platform-independent philosophy, broad capabilities, and most importantly, the commitment of our people, provides our partners and customers with affordable, advanced technology solutions.
