The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) has honored Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson with the prestigious John W. Dixon Award, presented annually for outstanding contributions to national defense by a member of the industrial community.

Swanson was recognized for being “a dynamic force” in the defense industry, “working tirelessly on behalf of our men and women in uniform.”

The award was presented at the AUSA Sustaining Members’ Reception and Luncheon by General Gordon R. Sullivan (USA Ret.), former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and President of AUSA, and by Nicholas D. Chabraja, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Dynamics and Chairman of the AUSA Council of Trustees. The guest speaker at the October 8 luncheon was Admiral Michael G. Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Swanson accepted the award “on behalf of the 72,000 people of Raytheon – many of whom are veterans ... and some of whom have been activated and are serving their country now on active duty.”

He recognized five Raytheon employees who had been activated by the Army Reserve and Army National Guard and have since returned to their civilian jobs in facilities within general proximity of Washington, D.C., where the luncheon was held. The five were invited to the event to honor all members of the reserve component who are part of the Raytheon team.

Swanson also congratulated Raytheon’s runners for again winning the prestigious Army 10-Miler in the Corporate category, for the 11th time in a row.

In closing, he said, “We will honor the force ... all who serve our country now, and all Americans who have ever worn the uniform.”

“...when you see the Raytheon name,” he said, “we want you to have ‘no doubt’ about our systems and services doing what they are supposed to do.”
