One of the programs Raytheon featured at the 2007 Paris Air Show is Persistent Surveillance and Dissemination Systems of Systems (PSDS2). PSDS2 is a networked system integrating intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems in real time, turning multiple sensor data into one real-time picture for timely response to hostile activity. PSDS2 provides video and fused information for display in the command center, along with dissemination of actionable intelligence to commanders in the field for targeting and maneuver.
The genesis of PSDS2 occurred in 2004 with a requirement for the integration of sensor systems for data to be distributed and "actioned" by current collection and weapons capabilities. This urgent requirement was validated mid-2004, and a contract to perform this work was awarded to Raytheon in December 2004. PSDS2 was designed, developed and deployed in 110 days, becoming operational in theater in June 2005. Since its inception, the system has provided dramatic improvement in the quality and timeliness of data available to warfighters.
Earlier this year, PSDS2 was awarded top honors at the Net Centric Warfare Awards sponsored by the Institute for Defense and Government Advancement. These awards honor, recognize and promote initiatives in the Department of Defense, coalition governments and defense industry that exemplify the principles of network-centric warfare and support Information Age transformation.
