Reflecting IDEX’s premier showcase of defense and security technology, Raytheon Company and Motion Reality, Inc. (MRI) have partnered to bring a live full demonstration of VIRTSIM™ to the Middle East for the first time. VIRTSIM is a world-leading, fully-immersive, 3-D small unit tactical training simulation system.
“This will be the first time VIRTSIM has been fully demonstrated outside the U.S. and Europe,” said Mark Blum, Raytheon Network Centric Systems virtual training capture manger. “Raytheon and MRI are very proud to make this IDEX debut and to have the United Arab Emirates as the host for this event.”
The VIRTSIM system applies Motion Reality’s industry-leading motion capture technology to allow a full squad of up to 13 individuals to interactively train complex small unit tactics and mission rehearsals with complete freedom of motion. Unencumbered by wires or cables in a 360 virtual environment, VIRTSIM trainees experience realistic sensory feedback, such as muscle stimulation, when they are shot as they interact with other live or artificially intelligent (AI) characters in combat, law enforcement or security-based scenarios.
“Unlike other systems, which project images on screens, VIRTSIM immerses trainees from head to toe, capturing their actual movements in real time as they freely move un-tethered in a virtual world,” said Blum. “Unscripted scenarios, including AI characters that react to the trainee’s actions and voice, ensure that tactical training creates the closest possible experience to actual combat.”
Raytheon and MRI have incorporated a full 3-D after action review capability that provides an immediate objective assessment of training results. Among many other capabilities, VIRTSIM systems can be networked together to allow larger, simultaneous unit training and mission rehearsal.
The Raytheon and MRI VIRTSIM demonstration can be experienced during IDEX 2011 at booth C50, Hall 12.
