RAYTHEON UCS DEBUTS AT AUVSI EVENT

Date posted: 08/16/2007*

The Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International (AUVSI) event, held at Webster Field in St. Inigoes, Md., on August 7, 2007, saw Raytheon's Universal Control System (UCS) make its debut, flying the Raytheon Cobra unmanned aerial system (UAS). The 15-minute flight demonstration was conducted from a UCS ground control system set up inside a military vehicle.

The UCS is a first-of-its-kind UAS "cockpit" that enhances operator awareness and efficiency while providing the ability to control multiple unmanned aircraft, reduce potential accidents, improve training, and decrease costs. The new system gives the UCS operators better situational awareness and the ability to control these unmanned systems from a safe zone out of harms way.

Raytheon’s Cobra is a low-cost, highly reliable unmanned system designed to support development, integration and test of unmanned systems technologies.

During the event, spectators viewed the latest in technically mature unmanned systems working under a number of operational scenarios.

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) is the world's largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems community. AUVSI, with members from government organizations, industry and academia, is committed to fostering, developing, and promoting unmanned systems and related technologies.
