Raytheon has received the 2007 Women in Engineering Programs & Advocates Network (WEPAN) Breakthrough Award. The Breakthrough Award honors an employer for creating a work environment that enhances the career success of women engineers of all ethnicities. In selecting Raytheon, the WEPAN awards committee used three criteria:

• Being a catalyst for change that enhances the success of women engineers of all ethnicities
• Employment of women engineers of all ethnicities at many levels in the organization
• Evidence of written policies or established practices that facilitate the full participation and career advancement of women of all ethnicities in engineering

"Diversity at Raytheon is about inclusiveness, in terms of providing an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and empowered to perform at a peak level, regardless of the many ways we are all different," said Lori Berdos, president of Raytheon’s Global Women Network, a companywide employee resource group that serves as a strategic business partner in building and maintaining a diverse workforce. "We’re proud that this award is recognizing our many accomplishments in this area, since they are at the core of helping Raytheon be successful in creating better solutions for our customers," said Berdos.

Berdos accepted the award on behalf of Raytheon at WEPAN’s annual conference held in Orlando, Fla. Each year, the organization honors individuals, programs and corporations for extraordinary service, significant achievement, model programs, and work environments. Raytheon was the only organization WEPAN recognized as an entire company this year.
