Raytheon’s Airborne Stand-Off Radar (ASTOR) program made its public debut July 1-2, 2006, at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Waddington International Air Show in Lincoln, England. The program’s Sentinel R Mk 1 aircraft and associated Tactical Ground Station vehicles were on display.
ASTOR, which is scheduled to enter service in the near future, will provide the RAF and the British Army with an advanced airborne surveillance system. Raytheon’s U.K. subsidiary, Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL), has a facility at RAF Waddington to support ASTOR.
Featuring a wide range of aerial exhibits, the Waddington Air Show drew an estimated 135,000 visitors.
One air show’s real crowd-pleasers was “Professor Bonkers,” an educational program in the United Kingdom that is actively supported by RSL. Similar to MathMovesU, the Professor Bonkers program is an example of Raytheon’s commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
