The Human Rights Campaign has named Raytheon to its “Best Places to Work” list for the company’s inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.
The Washington-based civil rights group also gave Raytheon a perfect 100 percent rating on its 2014 Corporate Equality Index for the ninth straight year.
The 2014 index rated 934 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community.
"We consider our diversity of talent and thought as a global competitive advantage," said Hayward Bell, Raytheon's chief diversity officer. "This ninth consecutive 100 percent rating of Raytheon by the HRC reflects our core values to treat all people with respect and dignity, and to welcome diversity and diverse opinions from our employees worldwide."
Raytheon is one of 303 companies to receive a perfect rating in what the HRC refers to as a historic year of progress for the equal rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
Raytheon was among the first aerospace and defense companies to adopt a domestic partner benefits policy in January 2002. In 2005, it became the first firm in its industry to receive a perfect score on the corporate equality index.
Raytheon is one of the nation’s largest defense companies, with 68,000 employees and sales of $24 billion in 2012.
