For one Sugar Land, Texas, student, math equals learning new concepts plus the opportunity to meet new people.

MathMovesU® Middle School Scholarship winner and former MATHCOUNTS participant Angeline Rao received a $1,000 campership courtesy of Raytheon to the Texas Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp, a summer math program. Angeline wrote about her love of meeting new people for Raytheon’s MathMovesU Middle School Scholarship and Grant Program, which honors students and teachers who are passionate about science, technology, engineering and math.

Angeline says she enjoys meeting new people because everyone has their own stories to tell. In sum, math is rewarding because it brings together everyone’s individual worlds.

“Math is a magnet that attracts lots of talented, intriguing students together and endows everyone a chance to meet people that they would have never come across without math,” she says in her presentation. “When I meet new people, I acquire the key to unlock their story and discover their world.”
