Raytheon was honored as a finalist for the first annual Hiring Our Heroes Wounded Warrior Employment and Transition Assistance Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Raytheon was nominated by two members of the U.S. Chamber for its commitment to our nation’s servicemen and women and to veteran employment programs, including the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and Raytheon’s Operation Phoenix.
Last November, Raytheon announced a five-year, $2.5 million grant commitment towards the WWP's education programs, information technology training and employment assistance services. In the first year of the partnership, Raytheon’s support has helped WWP expand the number of its training centers, introduce a computer security certification course, and graduate 539 students from its programs.
Developed by two retired senior non-commissioned officers – a disabled veteran and a wounded warrior, Raytheon’s Operation Phoenix launched in May 2009 to attract, hire and retain military veterans. The program includes resume and interviewing support for veterans transitioning in the private sector, annual attendance at more than 50 national veteran-related career fairs, and a website (Rayjobs.com/military) where servicemen and women can apply for positions and identify their status as a veteran.
Currently, 17.8 percent of Raytheon’s workforce identifies themselves as current or former military, and 14 percent of all new hires between 2006 – 2010 disclosed veteran-status. Raytheon has veterans at every level and function within its business.
