Raytheon provides training solutions to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) air traffic control specialists at a number of locations throughout the U.S. Former FAA controllers, with a wealth of real-life experience in the tower, help train and prepare the students for their new careers. The company has successfully implemented a range of training services on the Air Traffic Control Optimum Training Solution (ATCOTS) contract.

In addition to providing training services, the Raytheon-led ATCOTS team is focused on improvement initiatives, including curriculum designed for multi-generational learning, to create a more effective, high quality and cost-effective training process.

To date in government fiscal year 2011:

  • More than 1,000 controllers have been certified as a result of the ATCOTS program
  • More than 2,000 controllers have received training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Raytheon is supporting the FAA as it implements a series of technological enhancements that will transform the national air transportation system to meet future air traffic demand and avoid gridlock in the sky and on the runways.

As part of the company's commitment to progress in this field, John Harris, president of Raytheon Technical Services Company, is a member of the NextGen Advisory Committee. The committee will foster a common understanding of success with joint performance objectives and development milestones, and will focus on implementation at a national level, joint investment priorities, location and timing.
