A leader in delivering innovative solutions in information technology, Raytheon's IT organization has again been recognized as an industry leader in the InformationWeek 500 awards. The annual recognition honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology.
Raytheon broke through the top 100 and ranked No. 86 overall out of 500 companies, rising from last year's ranking of 126 and 2009's rank of 218. Raytheon was also an industry finalist in the manufacturing category, ranking No. 3 overall, an improvement from No. 8 last year.
"We are pleased to win the prestigious InformationWeek 500 award for the sixth consecutive year — and for the second time as a manufacturing sector finalist,” said Raytheon CIO Rebecca R. Rhoads. "This award recognizes the country's most innovative IT organizations, and our overall ranking at 86 confirms Raytheon's commitment to innovative IT solutions that enable global business growth."
Delivering Business Excellence Through Cloud Technology
The IT team highlighted its approach to cloud services and the unique security challenges that face the defense industry. Through strategic research, planning and product development, Raytheon's new IT solutions overcome previous obstacles. As a provider and user of cloud technology, the company's latest innovations help users leverage the full advantages of the cloud with information security assurance from both internal and external threats.
Raytheon's innovative cloud strategy has also contributed to the company's sustainability efforts, streamlining 69 percent of legacy systems and tools, and virtualizing more than 3,000 physical servers. The result: $23 million in annual savings thanks to the elimination of 2.1 megawatts of electricity consumption each year, and five Green IT awards in three years.
