Raytheon’s Airborne Stand-off Reconnaissance System, known as Sentinel in theater, has been recognized by the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence for exceptional performance during recent overseas operations.

ASTOR continues to demonstrate high levels of performance in the field. Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance is in need around the world as customers from the Asia-Pacific region to the Middle East and North Africa seek ways to monitor environmental zones, immigration and, in this case, threats to economic and political stability.

Raytheon's Ground Moving Target Indicator and Synthetic Aperture Radar technology allow near-real time dissemination of critical data to the ground forces.

In a recent letter to Raytheon UK, Peter Luff, Minister for Defence, Equipment, Support and Technology, commended the work of the Raytheon Sentinel support team and thanked them for the “tremendous support that Raytheon UK has provided the United Kingdom.” During recent overseas operations, which NATO has now brought to a close, the Sentinel aircraft provided unbroken support in the collection and analysis of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Luff described this support as “an outstanding achievement.” He also highlighted that Raytheon’s Sentinel team “enabled aircraft to remain at over 97 percent availability for operations,” which was vital because flying hours demanded by the Royal Air Force doubled when all available Sentinel aircraft were deployed during recent operations. This increased level of support was thanks to Raytheon’s deployment of volunteer field service representatives as well as the hard work of staff based at RAF Waddington and Broughton, as they all contributed in some way to maintaining Sentinel aircraft availability.

In response to the minister’s commendation, Bob Delorge, chief executive of Raytheon UK, said, “As the prime contractor and design authority for the Sentinel, we are responsible for ensuring that the RAF has the capability and aircraft that they can rely upon, particularly during times of increased operational tempo. We are proud to support the country, and this is further proof that the Sentinel aircraft is invaluable to the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance capability of the U.K.’s armed forces.”

The ASTOR continues to support customers worldwide, offering a menu of sensor options in an affordable, low-risk package. This gives current and potential customers the cutting-edge capabilities they need to meet their most complex mission requirements.
