John Harris, president, Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC, provided the industry keynote address at the 27th annual National Defense Industrial Association Logistics Conference in Miami March 29. More than 800 military and civilian government and industry professionals attended the meeting for defense-related logisticians from the government, academia and industry.

Harris followed a government keynote address by Dr. Ash Carter, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, logistics and technology, and preceded a third address by Gen. Norman Schwartz, chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force.

Harris addressed the theme of the conference – Global Sustainment in an Uncertain Future – by providing four key actions that could help government and industry work together to meet challenges head-on:

Creating a system-of-systems approach.
Selecting appropriate business models that balance flexibility with accountability.
Vigorously and continually connecting logistics lessons learned to program design engineering to drive out total ownership cost.
Training future leaders.
