The first batch of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) vehicles equipped with Raytheon's mobile data computer systems are now rolling on the streets of L.A., protecting residents of the most populous county in the United States.

The LASD cruisers, motorcycles, prisoner transport vehicles and SUVs outfitted with the Raytheon systems were unveiled at a news briefing in Los Angeles.

The computer systems will enhance access by more than 2,400 field units to new public safety technologies.

Deputies will now be able to use the Sheriff's Data Network, Intranet and other criminal databases from their vehicles with the state-of-the-art mobile data computers. They can also access other law enforcement information including fingerprints, GPS routing to emergency calls, and other critical resources they need to efficiently serve the public.

The $19.9 million dollar contract with the LASD is a significant investment in the future of public safety for the people of the greater Los Angeles area. The new computer systems will greatly increase the efficiency of the deputies in the field, enabling them to do more for the public in the years ahead.
