As Hurricane Irene dies down, many towns across the east coast of the United States are dealing with the damage caused by the storm. The American Red Cross is leading the way in providing a response for those affected by Irene.
So far, the American Red Cross has provided thousands with food and shelter. On Sunday, August 27, the American Red Cross operated or supported nearly 500 shelters with more than 27,000 residents. Shelters for those affected by the storm are now running from North Carolina to Maine.
How You Can Help
If you would like to make a donation to support the relief efforts, there are a few different options. Employees can donate directly to the American Red Cross or via a one-time (lump sum) gift made through Raytheon's Charitable Giving through payroll deduction program.
If you would like to make a one-time (lump-sum) gift to the American Red Cross through payroll deduction, visit Raytheon's Charitable Giving through Payroll Deduction website, submit a new request, select a "one-time payroll" gift, and designate your gift.
Beware of Charitable Contribution Schemes
In light of Hurricane Irene, the FBI has issued a warning to the public regarding fraudulent emails and websites purporting to conduct charitable relief efforts.
Employees considering gifts are encouraged to stick to well-known, established organizations such as the American Red Cross. If employees are considering making a gift to an organization that is not a well-known, established entity, they are encouraged to review the FBI’s guidelines.
