Engineering is Elementary® Partnership

Last updated: 10/10/2011*

The company's donation, an expansion of its MathMovesU initiative, will accelerate teacher training in the Museum of Science, Boston's Engineering is Elementary® (EiE) program and help teachers instill a passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) among their students. The gift will support the training of elementary school teachers in order to facilitate the sharing of EiE coursework in classrooms across the country.

  • The EiE program was founded in 2003.
  • The funds are designated to establish professional development hubs in Washington, D.C., Phoenix, Ariz. and Huntsville, Ala.
  • Raytheon announced its commitment on World Teachers' Day to recognize the many accomplishments and important contributions of teachers worldwide.

Tapping the natural curiosity of elementary school students and their ability to solve problems, the program helps foster engineering and technology literacy through hands-on, storybook-based learning in math and science. To date, more than 27,000 teachers and 2.5 million students have experienced EiE.

"By helping teachers bring the basic concepts of engineering and technology to life, they will be able to excite future generations of students to become the innovators of tomorrow," said Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson.
