A tornado outbreak that began April 25 has affected the southern and eastern United States with catastrophic destruction, especially across Alabama. The sequence produced destructive tornadoes in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, and affected several other areas throughout the region.
As of May 1, at least 339 fatalities have been reported as a result of the outbreak; 249 of the deaths occurred in the state of Alabama alone. In addition, a state of emergency was declared in seven states: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
The American Red Cross has been on the ground since the storms began and is operating in at least three states so far, with 32 shelters serving more than 2,000 people.
As a result of these devastating storms, Raytheon has created a $50,000 Matching Gift Program to the American Red Cross. All match funds donated will be specifically designated toward the Spring Tornado Disaster Relief efforts.
Once the campaign reaches $50,000, the match program will be closed.
How the Match Works
Employees can donate directly to the American Red Cross or through a one-time (lump sum) gift made through Raytheon's Charitable Giving through payroll deduction program. Employees must designate that the gift is for Spring Tornado Disaster Relief.
If you would like to give to the Red Cross directly, please use the link provided and click on "Disaster Relief for Countless Crises." Once that step is completed, or if you have already made a donation directly to the American Red Cross, please visit Raytheon's Matching Gifts site and request your match.
Since the American Red Cross does not currently accept designated gifts for Tornado Relief on its website, Raytheon will match all gifts made to "Disaster Relief for Countless Crises" for the next 30 days, or until the match reaches $50,000.
If you would like to make a one-time (lump-sum) gift to the American Red Cross through payroll deduction, visit Raytheon's Charitable Giving through Payroll Deduction site, submit a new request, select a "one-time payroll" gift and designate your gift.
If you experience issues making a gift or requesting a match, please contact EasyMatch.
