Sum of all Thrills™ at INNOVENTIONS at Epcot® at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., celebrates its first anniversary this week. Since the official ribbon cutting Oct. 14, 2009 thousands of guests have enjoyed this unique experience that allows visitors to custom design their own thrill ride using mathematical tools and concepts.
At the grand opening celebration, Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson said, "Sum of all Thrills is an example of how Raytheon is using innovation to encourage students to develop and sustain an interest in math and science. By experiencing the ‘thrill’ of math in this environment, students have the opportunity first hand to feel the excitement and possibilities of careers that are possible with math and science. We hope young people and adults alike will enjoy this innovative experience.”
And they have. This past year Sum of all Thrills brought lots of excitement to kids from around the globe and continues to be a top attraction. What’s the buzz all about? One Tweeter wrote, “We decided to stay in Epcot. Kids are now addicted to Sum of all Thrills.” Another wrote, “Best ride of the day? Four way tie between Soarin', Test Track, Mission: SPACE, and the Sum of all Thrills.”

Celebrating the Anniversary
Raytheon is promoting innovative ways to teach math and science with a series of interactive and hands-on events for students of all ages from Oct. 10-15.
In conjunction with the anniversary, Raytheon also will host character breakfasts for guests at the Shades of Green® Resort at the Walt Disney World® Resort Oct. 14.
Shades of Green is an Armed Forces Recreation Center. Raytheon is celebrating the expansion of The Family Technology Center donated by the company in Feb. 2009. The center serves as guests’ “home away from home” game room — offering an on-site extension of their Disney experience where they can relax, connect and enjoy one another’s company. Every year an estimated 750,000 military guests visit the resort.
Securing STEM Talent for the Future
Raytheon is committed to improving STEM education in the U.S. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics form the foundation of the global economy. Yet if current educational trends in the U.S. continue, fewer qualified candidates will be available to support our nation’s growth in these and other areas. As part of Raytheon's MathMovesU® program, Sum of all Thrills supports this commitment to secure STEM talent for the future.
The future of MathMovesU is filled with opportunities for continued success, STEM partnerships and expansion. MathMovesU will celebrate its fifth anniversary Nov. 10. Raytheon will honor the program and five successful years of promoting math and science education programs that have increased awareness and created a strong impact with planned events for middle school students across the country.
