Raytheon’s Web Solutions developed and supports award-winning site
The 13th Annual Webby Awards, the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, has named the NASA Cassini Mission Web site the winner of the 2009 Webby Award in the Science category. Raytheon’s Web Solutions team located in Pasadena, Calif., developed and supports this world class site for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of the California Institute of Technology.
Raytheon Web Solutions, which supports advanced Web development opportunities, provided the design, multimedia, architecture and coding for the Cassini Mission Web site. The team provides support for more than 100 high-visibility Web sites and Web-enabled applications, including NASA’s Mars Mission Web site — which broke the world record for hits with more than 14 billion in one year.
“By creating engaging, dynamic, visually appealing websites and applications, we are proud to have helped JPL earn national and international recognition from numerous high profile awards,” said David Overoye, program manager for Raytheon Web Solutions.
Top science Web site
As a winner of a Webby, the Cassini Mission Web site is recognized as the top science Web site in the world. The site is NASA’s homepage for the Cassini Mission to explore Saturn and its moons, rings and magnetic environment. It includes detailed information on the mission, multimedia such as thousands of raw images of the Saturn system and virtual tours of the spacecraft, and extensive educational sections for both teachers and kids.
Previous recognition for the Web Solutions team includes awards from CNN, Yahoo, Popular Science, National Academy Press, Adobe, Griffith Observatory, Discover Magazine, Time-Warner, three Webby finalists and two silver CINDYs for multimedia.
Internet’s highest honor
The Webby Awards has been hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times. This year’s 13th Annual Webby Awards received more than 10,000 entries from all 50 states and in excess of 60 countries worldwide. The Webby Awards are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and winners will be honored at a June 8 ceremony in New York City.
