A day to recognize the contributions of the aerospace and defense industry

In 2008, the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) initiated a campaign to promote the importance of the aerospace and defense industry to the new administration and Congress.

As a result, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution establishing today, Sept. 16, as National Aerospace Day to recognize the contributions of the industry to our country’s national and economic security.

Raytheon is one of the official sponsors of National Aerospace Day along with other industry members of the AIA. As a sponsor, Raytheon has been involved in the development of inside-the-beltway advertising and a National Aerospace collateral booklet which will be distributed to members of the Obama Administration and Legislators.

During National Aerospace Day, several events will be hosted on Capitol Hill to address the important issues facing the industry as well as to recognize AIA’s 90th anniversary.

Events include a Supplier Management Council "March to the Hill"; a breakfast in cooperation with the Manufacturing Caucus; a policy luncheon in cooperation with the Aerospace Caucus; and a Wings of Liberty reception. During the reception, the AIA Wings of Liberty award will be presented to Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI) for his significant contributions to the aerospace industry.

National Aerospace Day is also an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the hundreds of thousands of dedicated men and women of the U.S. aerospace and defense workforce.

According to the AIA, “Our employees are patriots who take great pride in their work, whether producing systems for warfighters, delivering world-class aviation systems or enabling our ‘last frontier’ explorers to reach the outermost limits of space.”
