The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has honored Raytheon Chairman and CEO William H. Swanson with the 2009 Leatherneck Award for his generosity and concern for our fighting Marines and their children.

The mission of the Foundation is to ensure that the children of Marines from families of modest circumstances receive the necessary aid to finance higher education.

The award was presented April 24 at the 47th Annual New York Leatherneck Scholarship Ball in New York City. The keynote speaker at the event was General James T. Conway, commandant of the U.S. Marines.

“I am honored to accept this award on behalf of the 73,000 men and women of Raytheon,” Swanson said. “It is our privilege to support the Marines and all of our men and women in uniform. We thank each and every one of you for your service to our country.”

During the program, Swanson recognized all the men and women in uniform in attendance as well as the Raytheon employees.

In closing, he said, “…I can’t think of a better way to express our gratitude [to our warfighters] than to make sure the children of our Marines and Navy corpsmen get a higher education. This is the best investment we can make in our country.”
