For the second consecutive year, Raytheon was awarded a 2009 ENERGY STAR Award for Sustained Excellence by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The honor was accepted by Raytheon’s Vice President of Business Services, Rob Moore, at a ceremony in the nation’s capital on March 31, 2009. It symbolizes the company’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to conserving energy through ongoing, measurable programs. It also marks the fifth instance in nine years that the EPA has recognized Raytheon with an ENERGY STAR Award.
Raytheon was selected from more than 12,000 public and private sector ENERGY STAR program participants for a 2009 Sustained Excellence Award. The ENERGY STAR program is a voluntary partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through increased energy efficiency.
Raytheon saved an estimated $3 million in 2008 and since 2002 has improved energy intensity (consumption per dollar revenue) by more than 30 percent. The recognition by the EPA was also influenced by employee engagement in the 2008 roll-out of Raytheon’s Energy Citizen campaign. More than 21,000 Raytheon employees became qualified Energy Citizens in 2008, and the company is continuing the program with a new campaign in 2009.
