Raytheon’s commitment to the armed forces, math and science education and our local communities was generously supported this past year by thousands of employees who made important contributions in many meaningful ways. Despite the recent economic downturn and the inevitable challenges that it brings, the spirit of giving — of time, talent and monetary support — remained strong throughout the Raytheon community.
Desire to Help Measured in Millions
Raytheon employees gave generously through payroll deduction, contributing almost $3,000,000* to charitable organizations that depend on monetary support to provide services and assistance to many in need throughout the country.
Employees also contributed almost $2.6 million* to many educational institutions and funds through Raytheon’s Matching Gifts for Education Program to share their commitment to life-long learning, and give others an opportunity to experience it first-hand.
As a company focused on mission success, our employees understand and embrace the need to support each other and the warfighter beyond the walls of the buildings in which we all work.
Raytheon’s Fund in Support of Our Troops received approximately $100,100 to benefit active duty military personnel, veterans and their families through grants distributed to eight designated military support organizations.
In addition, employees contributed just over $73,200 to the Raytheon Employee Disaster Relief Fund to help fellow employees impacted by catastrophic occurrences and natural disasters. As a direct result of this generosity, employees affected by severe flooding in the Midwest and the devastating fires in Southern California received grants to provide a measure of monetary relief.
Many Touched by Gifts of Time and Talent
Volunteerism and community service has always been a big part of the company culture, and this year is no exception. In 2008 alone, employees tracked more than 30,000 volunteer hours through VolunteerMatch, the Web-based non-profit organization that helps Raytheon employees connect with volunteer opportunities.
In addition, more than 4,000 Raytheon employees participated in over 110 MathMovesU events throughout the country, reaching more than 40,000 students with the important message that math and science can take them anywhere they want to go.
This enthusiasm is also reflected in the efforts and events Raytheon employees regularly take part in to help others, like cheering on contenders at Special Olympics, sponsoring toy drives for children of deployed soldiers, or raising funds for the hungry, homeless or victims of domestic violence. Still others spend countless hours nurturing tomorrow’s innovators by volunteering for MATHCOUNTS, MathMovesU, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs and events.
