BEYA Award Winners

Rodney Bailey
Rodney Bailey is recognized as an active and responsible team leader within Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business. Over the years, he has attained multiple system engineering skill sets, including requirements development, design and test and integration. In his current role of TI3 system engineer, Bailey is the lead for architecture tools and products.

Bailey began his career performing trade studies as well as developing and designing a life cycle maintenance facility for Danish Aerotech. He then moved to the Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle  program where he became subject matter expert in the field of High Purity/High Pressure Gas Systems and telemetry. He next worked on the Zumwalt program as a systems engineer and requirements developer. His growing expertise led to his assignment with the Missile Defense National Team, where he was responsible for interfacing with multiple missile defense programs awarded to various contractors. 

Bailey is actively involved in mentoring new colleagues, and orienting and teaching tool usage. He is active in the community, taking part in the Raytheon’s MathMovesU campaign, teaching students the importance of math and science. Bailey is also involved in Raytheon cultural initiatives such as the IDS President’s Cultural Initiative Program and the Raytheon Black Engineers Network. He is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Daisy Jenkins
Daisy Jenkins is the vice president of Human Resources at Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS). She was awarded the BEYA Award for Diversity for helping foster a welcoming environment that values differences and new ideas among all Raytheon employees. She began her 35-year career at Raytheon as a clerk, eventually working her way through the ranks to serve as vice president in three Raytheon businesses.  Jenkins has also served as Raytheon’s corporate diversity director, where she built state-of-the-art human resources and diversity and inclusion programs. Her professional and humanitarian work has directly and indirectly benefited hundreds of defense industry professionals nationwide. She is a founding member of the RMS chapter of the Raytheon Black Employee Network (RAYBEN). She also serves as the campus executive for the Tuskegee Mentor program.

Jenkins is also a lifelong learner, who has made time amid all her personal and professional commitments to earn her law degree from the University of Arizona. She has been a recipient of the University of Arizona College of Law Distinguished Alumnus Award and the National Eagle Leadership Institute (NELI) Eagle Award. She was also recognized in Ebony Magazine’s “Women at the Top in Corporate America” edition and honored as the 2007 Woman of the Year by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce in Tucson, Ariz.

Valecia Maclin
Valecia Maclin is director of Homeland Security and Secure Systems for Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems. She was awarded the BEYA Professional Achievement Award for distinguishing herself in several positions of critical importance. She currently oversees a portfolio of $100 million in annual sales and bookings, and leads an employee base of more than 130 people responsible for delivering solutions to federal agencies charged with securing our nation’s borders. In addition, she is the site executive for the Raytheon facility located in Landover, Md. She has served as program manager for the Systems Development and Integration Program with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 

Maclin has served as the systems engineering director on the pivotal Department of Homeland Security U.S. Visitor and Immigration Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) Program, and the program manager and systems engineering director for mission critical programs with NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Maclin voluntarily serves as a Raytheon diversity “Game Changer,” helping facilitate training sessions and workshops to foster an inclusive work environment. She regularly serves on panels aimed at inspiring youth to focus on careers in engineering and computer science, and is currently co-authoring a text on program management for U.S. Air Force Academy cadets in Colorado Springs. She won the Special Recognition Award at the 2002 BEYA Conference.

Jomo Maple
Jomo Maple is recognized as a significant contributor to the system engineering efforts within Raytheon  Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). Maple is currently a senior systems engineer on the Zumwalt Navy Destroyer program. As part of his ship integration and test responsibilities, he coordinated the efforts of more than 20 Raytheon engineers in support of multiple design reviews over a five-month period. Efforts included developing a review process, collecting shipyard design documentation and coordinating feedback between the shipbuilder and Navy customers. He also led the peer review process for a significant Navy-related white paper. A notable previous assignment included his contributions to the Patriot system test team, where he led an effort to integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and Raytheon specific software.

Maple was awarded a team achievement award for successfully conducting several customer demonstrations. He continually takes initiative in assuming new roles and developing skills necessary to succeed in these roles. He served as an acting section manager for the Modeling, Simulation and Mission Analysis section in the System Validation, Test and Analysis Directorate. He acts as Raytheon's Employee Associations activities coordinator, where he organized an event to promote mentoring relationships within the department. Prior to his relocation, Maple was an active member of Raytheon’s Black Employees Network – North East (RAYBEN-NE). He now volunteers his time tutoring students in the Washington, D.C. area.

Blessing Nzenwa
Blessing Nzenwa is a senior systems engineer II and the IT security officer for RIS’s U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Systems Development and Integration (SDI) program. He is part of the Raytheon team that provides USPTO with IT solutions and services, including software development and maintenance, life cycle processes and enterprise architecture.

Blessing has a bachelor’s degree in information systems management and master’s in computer systems management with a specialty in information assurance/security from the University of Maryland, University College. He has worked at Raytheon for three years, with progressively increasing responsibilities within the USPTO SDI program team.

Raydiance Wise
Raydiance Wise is recognized as a superior performer within Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS). Wise was recently named manager for the Combat Systems and Platform Integration Department and the Expeditionary Warfare Center engineering lead. In her previous position, she was Integrated Product Team lead for the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement  Program. Prior to this, Wise was the surveillance lead on the PAC-3 program and a section manager for the Air Defense Radars department. For multiple Patriot programs, she identified and developed radar system concepts and requirements to enhance system performance.

Wise has been a dedicated organizer and important team leader for Raytheon’s Embedded Engineer Program, which connects Raytheon’s engineers to the warfighter by participating in training activities on the Patriot missile system. She received recognition through the company’s peer-based Technical Honors Program.

Wise is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. She’s a trustee for the Unity Church of God Board of Trustees, and a volunteer for the Stand and Deliver Mentoring Program for Lawrence (Mass.) Middle School. Wise leads by example by committing herself to many key company leadership programs, including the President’s Culture Initiative, the Game Changer Program, the Raytheon Six Sigma program and Raytheon’s Engineering Leadership Development Program.
