Raytheon Polar Services (RPS) was recognized as a Gold Star Leader by the state of Colorado’s Environmental Leadership Program for the second consecutive year. This award makes RPS one of the premier environmental stewardship organizations within the state.

Gold Star Leader status is the highest level of recognition from the state of Colorado. A total of only 18 businesses have received this recognition in the state over the past eight years. The award is given to companies that establish commitments to continuous environmental improvement and goals that are measurable and verifiable. A selection criterion includes the establishment of a functional environmental management system. In addition, the company needs to demonstrate a clean environmental compliance record and must submit an annual report to show progress toward set goals.

RPS’s environmental team, led by Environmental Engineering Manager Nate Biletnikoff and Environmental, Health & Services Director Rob Cavalier, oversees ongoing projects in Antarctica related to remediation and revitalization, drinking water and wastewater management, waste management and energy management programs. Highlights include examples of enhanced conservation and reuse, fuel storage, spill prevention and response, education and training, permit compliance, and environmental impact assessments.

Raytheon Polar Services, located in Centennial, Colo., is the prime logistical contractor to the National Science Foundation’s U.S. Antarctic Program.
