Raytheon was honored as the “Private-Sector Employer of the Year” by CAREERS & the disABLED magazine for its commitment to recruiting, hiring and promoting people with disAbilities. In the publication’s annual reader survey, Raytheon was selected as one of the top employers for whom they would most like to work or whom they believe are progressive in hiring people with disabilities.
“We are proud of our work to create a more inclusive workplace and continue aggressively on our journey to identify and fully develop the resources and creativity that are found in the community of people with disabilities,” said Dave Wajsgras, Raytheon’s chief financial officer. Wajsgras accepted the award on behalf of Raytheon at the publication’s 15th Annual Awards dinner held in Boston.
Wajsgras also spoke of Raytheon’s supportive environment. The Raytheon Persons with DisAbilities Association (RPDA), for example, is one of Raytheon’s seven employee resource groups. The organization works as a strategic partner across the company to facilitate a fully accessible and supportive workplace for employees with disabilities. In addition, the RPDA has partnered with Raytheon Parents of Dependents with Special Needs (RPODS) and DisAbled Veterans of Raytheon (DVR), to provide an inclusive environment of cooperation and sharing among Raytheon employees, their families and external resources through community and government agencies.
Moreover, recruiting for excellence involves solid partnerships, so Raytheon maintains relationships with several colleges, universities and professional organizations that support people with disabilities. One of these organizations, the Military Severely Injured Center (MSIC), provides wounded soldiers with financial, education, personal and career assistance. Raytheon works with the MSIC by notifying it of available Raytheon positions so that members may apply for these positions and be considered in a timely fashion.
“Overall, we look at this award as a significant milestone to reflect on our past accomplishments, but we will also use it as motivation to continue to make Raytheon an even better company for all of our employees, partners and customers,” said Wajsgras. “I am confident that we can and will do more.”
