Network Centric Systems Operations Manager Peter Pisasale is Florida’s Young Engineer of the Year for 2006. He received the award at the Florida Engineering Society Annual Summer Conference and Exposition on Saturday, July 29.
This award is given annually to an up-and-coming engineering leader, 34 years of age or younger, who exemplifies the ideal image of the young engineer. Recipients are selected for their achievements in engineering, education and the community.
Pisasale was first selected as the winner for Pinellas County. He then progressed to the state-level competition, where he was selected from a field of 20 other young engineers. By virtue of winning the state competition, Pisasale has moved on to the National Young Engineer competition, which will take place in early 2007.
Pisasale joined Raytheon eight years ago, working as an RF engineer in the Satellite Terminals Design department at the company’s Marlborough, Mass., facility. In 2001 he transferred to Largo, Fla., where he worked as the lead test engineer on the Submarine High Data Rate Mast program.
He has been working in a Raytheon Six Sigma Expert capacity since May 2005 and will soon be going through the certification process. Pisasale achieved professional engineer status in August 2005. Since late last year, he has been the Radio/Terminals and Systems Operations manager, where he leads a team of 14 Integrated Product Team leaders and 200 employees.
Pisasale serves his profession as secretary of the Florida Engineering Society Pinellas Chapter; he’ll step into the president’s role in October. He also leads the yearbook committee and has been published in the yearbook and the FES newsletter. Peter is also vice chairman of the Florida West Coast IEEE Section of Microwave Theory and Techniques, Antennas and Propagation, Electron Devices.
Pisasale’s educational achievements are many. He expects to complete a masters degree in engineering management from the University of South Florida in December. He already holds a masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. In addition, his academic achievements have earned him membership in the Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society, and the Alpha Pi Mu, National Industrial Engineering Honor Society.
Pisasale works with young people in local schools as a math tutor and MATHCOUNTS™ volunteer.
