The Raytheon Missile Systems Weapon Integration Center Camden (WICC) in Camden, Ark., has seen several changes since 1964. Originally it was the site of a telephone manufacturing facility.

General Dynamics and later Hughes Missile Systems developed the location for missile manufacturing. In 1998, Raytheon acquired the facility that today is home to the Evolved SeaSparrow Missile, Tomahawk
cruise missile, Standard Missile-2 and Standard Missile-3.

Located on 300 secure acres, WICC has 148 employees that are all focused on assembly, test, delivery and depot services for the complicated missile systems they manufacture. Along with two major assembly buildings and an assembly and storage building for capsule and canister repair, the campus is home to ordnance storage structures, magazines and warehouses.

Because of the unique nature of the work at WICC, security is a priority of the work force. In recognition of the facility’s security achievements in the form of Defense Security Service (DSS) back-to-back-to-back Superior ratings, WICC earned the DSS’ Cogswell Award. The Cogswell Award is the highest recognition DSS can bestow on a cleared contractor for its National Industrial Security Program. Of the more than 12,000 DSS-cleared contractors, less than 1 percent is annually selected to receive this award.

Operational excellence is the hallmark for WICC. In 2008, the facility was honored with the Bronze Medallion of the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence. The Shingo Prize program has educated, assessed and recognized operational excellence in outstanding companies for the last 20 years. WICC was congratulated for its lean focus on all business processes, through all levels of transformation. Dubbed the “Nobel Prize of Manufacturing” by BusinessWeek, the Shingo Prize is recognized as the premier award for operational excellence in North America.

“Our success has been driven by our employees,” said Randy Graham, site manager at WICC. “A walk through our facility shows the pride each of us has in what we do and who we do it for –– the warfighter.”
