Missile Systems
(MS), with 2005 sales of $4.1 billion, is the world’s
premier supplier of advanced missile systems for land, sea
and air defense and is focused on innovative technologies
that provide rapid, high-quality, affordable mission capability.
The business performed strongly in 2005, achieving key milestones
and conducting successful flight tests. The Standard Missile-3
for sea-based missile defense and the Exoatmospheric Kill
Vehicle for ground-based defense met critical test objectives,
supporting efforts by the Missile Defense Agency to destroy
ballistic missiles in space. The Joint Standoff Weapon team
developed a JSOW Block II that provides the U.S. Navy expanded
capabilities and lower unit costs. For its effort, the team
won the 2005 David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award
sponsored by the Department of Defense.
MS is also applying
technologies to new markets, including a directed-energy
solution for airport protection and a proposed lunar landing
vehicle for NASA space exploration.
