Raytheon’s community outreach is largely focused on helping enhance educational opportunities for youth. One major component of this outreach is supporting and encouraging the intellectual development of students through scholarship programs. This year, Raytheon awarded $350,000 in scholarships to a distinguished group of students as part of the Raytheon Scholars program.
"The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow," said Kristin Hilf, vice president, Community Relations. "Through Raytheon scholarship programs, we recognize and encourage exceptional academic excellence. Doing our part to foster this talent is an important investment in our company’s future and in the communities where we live."
The Raytheon Scholars program is open to children of Raytheon employees; these students must be enrolled freshman, sophomores or juniors at an accredited undergraduate two- or four-year institution.
This year, out of a competitive pool of 886 highly qualified applicants, 350 awards were granted. These recipients excelled academically, were involved in extracurricular activities and participated in community programs.
"Winning a Raytheon scholarship certainly put a smile on Courtney's face," commented Fred Darlington of RTSC, whose daughter Courtney was one of the recipients. "Raytheon's commitment to education, and in particular this scholarship program, reaffirms why I think Raytheon is an awesome place to work."
2008 Raytheon Scholars Program The 2008 Raytheon Scholars program is set to begin. The application process will open December 31, and scholarship applications are due no later than March 15, 2008.
