RAYTHEON HELPS EPA EXCEED ITS GREEN POWER GOAL

Date posted: 01/31/2008*

Raytheon's Aurora, Colo., facility was recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its leading green power purchase and for its support and participation in the EPA’s Fortune 500 Green Power Challenge.

Throughout 2007, EPA challenged America’s largest corporations to collectively exceed more than 5 billion kilowatt-hours of green power purchasing annually — and Raytheon stepped up.

In support of the Green Power Challenge, Raytheon is purchasing nearly 3 million kilowatt-hours of green power, which is enough to meet 10 percent of the facility’s purchased electricity use. The green power used by Raytheon is wind-generated and is being supplied by Xcel Energy.

“Adding green power consumption demonstrates Raytheon’s proactive choice to switch away from traditional sources of electricity generation and support cleaner renewable energy alternatives,” said Michael D. Keebaugh, president of Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems business. “If other businesses decide to enact similar green practices, we can contribute to increasing Colorado’s green footprint.”

The 13-month Green Power Challenge campaign concluded at the end of 2007, with Raytheon's purchase helping the EPA exceed its 5 billion kilowatt-hour challenge goal. EPA has since announced the kickoff of its second Fortune 500 Green Power Challenge, which will conclude at the end of 2009.

“EPA applauds our Fortune 500 partners for protecting our environment by purchasing green power,” said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. “By voluntarily shifting to renewable energy, Raytheon’s Aurora, Colo., facility is proving you don’t need to wait for a signal in order to go green.”
