In its September 18 cover story, BusinessWeek magazine features Raytheon as one of the top 10 “Best Places to Launch a Career.”
Our ranking — #7 overall — is the result of a survey developed by the magazine to identify the top 50 employers for new college graduates. Raytheon’s top 10 placement resulted from high scores returned on a variety of key measurements, including our competitive pay package, onboarding process and commitment to training new employees. The magazine also commented on the company’s stability, noting that 43 percent of our top executives have 20 or more years of service with the organization.
“We work hard at retaining and attracting the best talent to our organization,” said Bill Swanson, Chairman and CEO of Raytheon. “Our core values include welcoming diversity and diverse opinions within our company, creating an environment where all employees are encouraged to learn and grow, fostering teamwork and collaboration, and celebrating success. Our high ranking on the survey is great recognition for all our employees throughout the company.”
The BusinessWeek ranking used feedback from three different sources, including directors of undergraduate career services, company supplied data and the findings of a Universum Communications survey of 37,000 U.S. undergrads. The magazine tapped college officials to get a sense of who was creating buzz on campus. Those companies were then asked to respond to a detailed questionnaire about pay, benefits, retention and training programs. That information was checked against the Universum findings.
Raytheon’s cross-functional Leadership Development Program (LDP) is an example of the company’s commitment to its new recruits. The two-year program provides participants with various experiences and postings across the enterprise, along with a more direct path to management.
