Raytheon technology is featured on the Oct. 30 cover of Aviation Week. The cover theme, “Conformal Arrays: The Future,” focuses on the growing importance of sensors, a key core competency of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS).
The introductory article, “Sensors vs. Airframes,” positions Raytheon, particularly SAS, at the forefront of this new frontier. The article discusses how conformal arrays will become the “skins” of various platforms. This “system on the outside” technology seems to have found a niche in unmanned aerial surveillance vehicles.
The article also discusses future enhancements to active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, another key SAS technology. Such enhancements may include frequency agility and rendering the radar less visible to countermeasures.
Other articles in the Oct. 30 issue take a closer look at conformal arrays and radar technology.
