File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, is a point-to-point method of exchanging data, where trading partners deal directly with each other. In a typical example, one trading partner loads data to its own secured FTP server, where the other trading partner will connect to retrieve the data. Encryption of the data and/or the entire transmission is commonly utilized with this form of communications.
