Leveraging our proven radar expertise, Raytheon provides innovative and affordable solutions to support the continued exploration of and security for the Space domain.
New Technology Leads to New Discoveries
Raytheon provided key components to NASA’s miniature radio frequency sensor system (known in India as miniaturized synthetic aperture radar). Flown on two lunar missions, Mini-RF is designed to detect ice in the moon’s polar craters. Data collected from India's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft and NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter have provided evidence for the existence of water on the moon.
Raytheon’s Mini-RF technology is easily reproducible and quickly manufactured, in a low-cost, lightweight, simple payload design.
Space Fence Program
As the preeminent, trusted leader in large-aperture radars, Raytheon is partnering with the U.S. Air Force to establish the next phase of space surveillance capabilities with the Space Fence System. The Space Fence program is an Air Force multiphase acquisition, which will lead to the delivery of up to two globally positioned S-band radars.
