The AN/FPS-123 (V3) Pave Paws Early Warning Radar System detects and tracks both intercontinental and sea-launched ballistic missiles.

Pave Paws is a UHF, all solid-state, dual-faced radar system that provides early missile warning and space surveillance. The system’s primary function is to detect and track intercontinental and sea-launched ballistic missiles. As a U.S. Air Force Space Command radar system, it also detects and tracks Earth-orbiting satellites.

Operating at two locations on U.S. perimeter coastlines, Pave Paws collects early-warning and attack characterization data. The information collected is then sent to the U.S. Space Command’s Missile Warning and Space Control Centers, the National Military Command Center and the U.S. Strategic Command.
